About Advocis
Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada, is the oldest and largest voluntary professional membership association of financial advisors. With more than 12,000 advisors in 49 chapters across Canada, Advocis members provide financial and product advice to millions of Canadians across a variety of distinct areas, including: estate and retirement planning, wealth management, risk management, and tax planning. Members adhere to a strict professional Code of Conduct, subscribe to standards of best practice, meet ongoing continuing education requirements, maintain appropriate levels of professional liability insurance and are committed to putting their client interests first. The Association’s website is http://www.advocis.ca/.

Partners in the fight against cystic fibrosis since 1985, the members of Advocis had 100 reasons to rejoice as 2006 marked  the one-hundredth birthday of the Canada-wide organization.

The Vancouver Chapter was first contacted by our National office in the fall of 1985. That first year, LUAC members manned numerous shifts to sell the very first Santa Sock raffle tickets. The raffle prizes in the early years were usually Zellers gift certificates but over the years included framed art prints or other “desirable” items which could help with ticket sales. Ticket sales took place in various lower mainland malls during the month of December. Over the years, lots of tickets were sold, even more effort was extended by LUAC/ADVOCIS members and by CF volunteers and donations of varying amounts were made to CCFF. Some years, the raffle didn’t happen but the connection continued with invitations to speak to the LUAC membership and cash donations back to CCFF.

In June 2001 the format changed to the CAIFA Golf Classic and CAIFA/ADVOCIS hasn’t looked back. The choice between sitting in a mall in December or riding around a golf course in June and the difference between a small donation ($1,000-$2,000) or a large donation ($15,000-$16,000) meant it was an excellent decision. Over the last few years the number of golfers able to attend has changed but what hasn't changed is the commitment of the organization and its membership to continue supporting CCFF.

Advocis has been a strong supporter of organ donation programs, bequest advocacy and our 65 Roses Gala. The CCFF board in 1985 was correct—it would be a wonderful friendship and partnership.

Advocis motto non solis nobis (not for ourselves alone) can be found at the heart of its relationship with the Foundation.  At the national level, total member-driven fundraisers have contributed more than $3.6 million to the cystic fibrosis research and treatment programs during the 24 year partnership.
