Over 450 walkers and supporters of cystic fibrosis participated in the Lower Mainland Great Strides event, which took place on Sunday, May 30th at Fleetwood Park in Surrey. The event raised over $170,000 in donations and pledges. Sunday was also the culmination of the first official red hair challenge which launched Reddy for a Cure, a project that the CF team of the Lower Mainland, Suki's and BRANDFX created to continue Eva Markvoort’s legacy and to raise awareness and funds for CF research. The Vancouver Reddy for a Cure team raised a total of $29,000 and became the second highest fundraising team in Canada! Combined with Toronto’s Reddy for a Cure team, the two “redhead marching armies” raised over $41,000. On Sunday, more than 50 communities across Canada took great strides towards finding a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF), the most common, fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. Great Strides is the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest fundraising event. Funds raised by walkers will support vital cystic fibrosis research and care. The campaign has raised more than $6 million in the last five years. While the final numbers are not in yet, this year the Foundation hopes to exceed its goal of $2.5 million! Thank you to our generous sponsors Zellers, Kinsmen, Envision Financial, and Langley Marketplace IGA, volunteers and supporters for helping us to make this year’s event the most successful ever!
