On Saturday, September 11th, UBC’s student society, the AMS, we will be hosting Shine Day, the primary fundraising event of its Shinerama Campaign.   Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser, involving more than 35,000 students at 65 schools across Canada each year and the largest volunteer campaign organized by the AMS. Since 1964, shiners have raised more than $20.5 million by shining one pair of shoes, or one car, by selling one raffle ticket, one hot dog or burger at a time! All funds raised go to support the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and its efforts to find a cure, or an effective control for cystic fibrosis.  Last year, students at university and college campuses across Canada raised over $988,000 for cystic fibrosis research. Shinerama’s 2010 goal is $1 million! This year also marks a special year as UBC plans to bring its Shinerama campaign into the top 10% of the 65 Canadian universities that take part in this amazing fundraiser by raising $25,000.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the SUB Ballroom on campus. Volunteers will spend the day washing cars, shining shoes and singing songs all over Vancouver to raise money for cystic fibrosis research. We hope to see you at Shine Day on September 11th!
